LCMS Communications is responsible for informing, reporting, and interpreting, in consultation with applicable officers and boards, the Synod’s purpose, program and positions to its members and for promoting an increased understanding of the same to the public.

Reporting Relationships

Reports to Manager of Media Relations and Social Media.

Essential Job Functions

• Write, design, record and edit short form video content for social media and other digital channels.
• Create engaging content for social media platforms and develop content relevant to various target audiences (church workers, members of congregations, donors, etc.).
• Optimize and schedule video content according to current algorithm preferences and social media best practices.
• Organize and maintain internal video assets and storage.
• Schedule content to social media platforms as assigned.

Education And Experience

• Bachelors degree in communications, cinematography, film studies, writing, design or marketing.
• Familiarity with social and digital media management software such as Sprout Social, Hubspot, Salesforce Social Studio.
• Experiencing editing video using software such as Final Cut Pro X, iOS or Android apps

Competencies (Knowledge, Skills And Abilities)

• Member in good standing of an LCMS congregation with a strong working knowledge of the Scriptures and Lutheran theology.
• Proficient in the English language (vocabulary, grammar, punctuation) to handle a myriad of communication tasks, both written and oral.
• Proficient in interviewing subjects for social and digital content.
• Well organized and can work on multiple projects simultaneously.
• Able to evaluate metrics and utilize data to improve created content with the goal of audience growth and increased engagement.
• Strong interpersonal communication and relationship building skills.
• Works well independently and as part of a team.
• Proficient in Microsoft software: Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.
• Proficient in video editing software, especially Final Cut Pro X. Experience with Adobe Premiere Pro or DaVinci Resolve is a plus.
• Animation experience a plus; especially Apple Motion and Adobe After Effects.
