Minnesota IT Services (MNIT) is looking for a Communications Specialist to coordinate, develop, and implement communications activities for MNIT’s business operations units, including HR, procurement, DEI (Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion), legal, and finance.

This role also involves managing the agency’s social media platforms, ensuring that internal and external stakeholders are well-informed and engaged about the agency’s activities, strategies, and information.

Key Responsibilities / Duties:

  • Develop and implement communications strategy, message development, writing, and editing using plain language principles, AP style, and brand voice.
  • Manage email communications, web communications, mass emails, and publishing content.
  • Manage the agency’s social media platforms, including creating and regularly publishing content for the agency’s Facebook, LinkedIn, and Twitter accounts.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Associate’s degree in journalism, English, marketing, or related field.
  • At least two (2) years of professional communications experience.
  • Basic knowledge of news writing and public relations principles, including Associated Press and plain language writing styles.
  • Experience with social media best practices and trends.
  • Familiarity with Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) guidelines and digital accessibility best practices.
  • Experience in creating social media campaigns that target multiple social media platforms.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Ability to plan and implement multi-faceted, complex communications and marketing strategies suitable for wide audiences.
  • Experience working with subject matter experts, senior leaders, or executives on communications products and social media campaigns.
  • Excellent organizational and independent work skills.
  • Sensitivity to and respect for cultural and other differences that may be encountered in interactions with coworkers and customers.
  • Ability to measure and evaluate communication efforts to identify areas for improvement and develop recommendations.

Additional Requirements:

  • Successful completion of legally required checks, including SEMA4 Records Check (for current and past state employees), Criminal History Check, Reference Check, Social Security and Address Verification, Education Verification, and other legally required checks.

Note: Only candidates located in Minnesota and bordering states (Iowa, North Dakota, South Dakota, or Wisconsin) are eligible for telework.

Work Environment: This position requires an employee to be onsite at the work location one (1) day per week, with telework options available for the remaining days.
