The Social Media Manager assumes a critical and collaborative role, reporting to the Director of Content and Media Partnerships, and working closely within the Earth Alliance team to realize this ambitious vision.

The Social Media Manager will lead Earth Alliance’s social media efforts, focused primarily on our Instagram account (800k+), as well as other social accounts including TikTok and YouTube. This role will wear many hats, including developing our strategy and voice for social media, curating content and creating posts, coordinating our publishing workflow, and preparing regular analytics reports.

The ideal candidate has a passion for pop culture and the latest viral media, as well a deep interest in climate science and solutions.

This role demands excellent organizational, communication, and planning skills and an aptitude for working in a fast-paced, highly collaborative and creative startup environment.

Role And Responsibilities

  • Social Media Strategy – Working with Earth Alliance’s editorial team to develop our social media strategy; establishing a voice and vibe for Earth Alliance’s social media presence that is in line with Earth Alliance’s values and goals.
  • Creating Posts – End-to-end creation of multimedia posts – researching, curating, and writing posts. Working with basic graphics templates to create visuals.
  • Curating Content – Researching and curating content at the intersection of culture and climate with an eye to elevating new narratives and new voices. Securing rights and permissions for partner content.
  • Project Management – Managing the full scope of creating, reviewing, and publishing posts, tracking editorial calendar, workflow and team collaboration via project management software.
  • Reviewing Analytics – Tracking audience engagement through social analytics tools, identifying opportunities for growth, and delivering regular reports.
  • Community Management – Fostering community, reviewing engagement in comments and DMs, responding to questions and feedback, flagging any issues.
  • Partnership Coordination – Coordinating collaborations with digital content creators, social media partners, and freelance creatives, including implementation of social media campaigns.
  • Bonus/optional: short video production – Creating short videos about climate and culture, potentially including interviews with creators and other short-format vlog-style content.

Qualifications, Skills, And Requirements

  • Work experience: 4+ years of experience as a social media manager, ideally with a focus on culture.
  • Demonstrated success establishing a voice and growing an audience in social media.
  • Excellent writing skills, a friendly, relatable voice, and the ability to communicate factual information in an interesting and engaging way.
  • Solid project management experience, coordinating a collaborative editorial workflow in a fast-moving startup environment.
  • Knowledge of social media platforms’ best practices and tools.
  • Experience working with industry standard social media tools, and publishing and analytics software.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and an obsession with proofreading and catching errors.
  • A proactive and highly organized self-starter who is motivated to act with a sense of urgency, problem-solve, offer up solutions and take on additional responsibilities.
  • Collaborative with strong interpersonal skills, an inherent positive and caring attitude with the ability to integrate quickly into a growing team.
  • Able to work in an environment that requires utmost discretion in dealing with confidential matters and projects.
  • Able to represent Earth Alliance with professionalism, integrity and a strong customer service attitude.
  • An enthusiastic team player who is nimble and willing to tackle anything from small internal administrative tasks to larger scale projects.
  • Hungry to learn, curious to ask questions, and desires to engage in exploration individually as well as being part of a team.
  • Optional: Basic design skills, familiarity with Adobe Creative Cloud and/or Figma.
  • Optional: Basic social video production skills, on-camera video experience.

Location

Earth Alliance, a sponsored project of Rockefeller Philanthropy Advisors, is a remote/hybrid team. We have office access in the following cities: New York, Seattle, Chicago, Washington DC, Palo Alto and San Francisco.

Compensation: $75,000-$110,000
