Social Media Manager

Overview

YMCA of Middle Tennessee

 

Consistent with the Christian mission and vision of the YMCA of Middle TN, and in cooperation with other YMCA staff, under the direction of the Vice President of Marketing, this position will be responsible for the day-to-day planning and execution of the YMCA of Middle Tennessee’s Association-level social media channels.

The Social Media Manager is the key person overseeing the planning and execution of the YMCA of Middle Tennessee’s social media presence in service to the organization’s larger goals and objectives.

Essential Functions:

  • Model the YMCA core values: Caring, Honesty, Respect, and Responsibility
  • Model and put into practice behavior that supports inclusion and diversity
  • Perform research on current benchmark trends and audience preferences as it relates to social media
  • Help design and implement social media strategy to align with business goals as directed by the Vice President of Marketing
  • Generate, edit, publish and share engaging content daily (e.g. original text, photos, videos, and news)
  • Monitor and report on social media metrics
  • Collaborate with other teams in Marketing & Communications, Member Experience, Philanthropy and other departments to ensure quality control and brand standards, including diversity, equity, and inclusion policies and guidelines
  • Monitor organization’s social media channels and communicate with followers and/or, respond to queries on all Association-level channels in a timely manner
  • Oversee social media accounts’ design (e.g. Facebook timeline cover, profile pictures, and blog layout) in collaboration with Creative Services
  • Suggest and implement new features to develop brand awareness and grow social media followers and engagement
  • Stay up-to-date with current technologies and trends in social media, design tools and applications
  • Help set organization’s overall social media standards and guidelines and support training and oversight of center- and program-based social media channel administrators in partnership with Member Experience and program directors.
  • Support organization’s other marketing and communications efforts as assigned (including maintenance of Y’s web sites)

  • Passion, enthusiasm, and commitment to the mission and cause of the YMCA
  • An enthusiastic personality with the desire to serve members, volunteers, guests, participants and staff to create a culture of service within our organization
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community
  • Must present a professional image and possess conflict resolution skills, and demonstrate sound judgment and initiative
  • Must be highly organized with the ability to work under pressure and handle multiple tasks
  • Hands-on experience in content production and management, including maintenance of an ongoing social media and/or editorial calendar.
  • Excellent copywriting skills
  • Ability to deliver creative content (text, images, graphics and video)
  • Knowledge of online marketing channels
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Analytical and multitasking skills
  • Experience writing/producing to a brand’s voice, style and messaging standards
  • Experience and proficiency with video production, shooting and editing techniques a plus
  • Very strong writing skills with a deep understanding of what makes a great story/post
  • Proficiency with HTML and basic web design/content management a plus
  • Minimum 18 years of age
  • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing or relevant field a plus
  • Multilingual a plus

  • A “publisher’s mindset” with an audience-first approach to creating content
  • An exceptional strategic and creative thinker who can write stories that hit the “sweet spot” of both engaging selected audiences and fulfilling an organization’s strategic objectives
  • Superior writer who has a deep understanding of what makes a great story (professional writing samples will be required of serious candidates)
  • A proactive self-starter with a passion for finding new stories and new ways to deliver them
  • A passion for the Y’s mission and work in the areas of healthy living, youth development and social responsibility
  • Strong attention to detail, especially when under tight deadline pressures
  • Ability to juggle multiple projects simultaneously and work under tight deadline pressures
  • Superior interviewing, reporting and research skills
  • Knowledge of AP style
  • Basic Adobe Photoshop skills a plus
  • Proven ability to build consensus and work effectively within a cross-departmental team
  • Experience using social media analytics (including user feedback) to optimize content marketing efforts
  • Experience using a diversity, equity and inclusion lens when it comes social media management is highly desired
