Cornell University is seeking a Senior New Media Specialist to develop and execute social media strategies that strengthen Cornell’s brand and engage the community in the life of the university.

This role is responsible for planning, developing, and publishing content on university-level social media platforms, acting as a community manager, providing guidance and mentoring to the New Media Specialists’ role, and assisting in various projects related to social media and community engagement.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan, develop, and publish content on university-level social media platforms, ensuring high-quality content that aligns with communication priorities.
  • Provide guidance and mentoring to New Media Specialists on various projects.
  • Act as a community manager, developing a strong community with Cornell affinity.
  • Monitor online sentiment and suggest solutions for better engagement.
  • Assist in training communication staff and university administrators.
  • Advise college and unit partners on launching new accounts, social media strategy, and content.
  • Collaborate with Chief New Media Officer and other team members.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in arts, marketing, communications, or related field.
  • 3 to 5 years of full-time work experience managing social media communities or equivalent.
  • Strong writing and editing skills with an understanding of social media content creation.
  • Knowledge of image/video manipulation design tools.
  • Proficiency in social media management tools.
  • Ability to work nonstandard business hours when necessary.
  • Understanding of and commitment to supporting diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Salary and Benefits:

  • Salary range: $70,000 – $81,928 per year.
  • Comprehensive benefits package, including health care, retirement contributions, wellness programs, and more.
