The Senior Manager, Social Media is responsible for helping to raise awareness of Common Sense Media’s brand by developing and implementing comprehensive social media strategies and content, and engaging with our target audiences and partners. This is a role for a proactive, creative, mission-driven, and outstanding communicator and social media expert who can thrive in a high-paced and entrepreneurial nonprofit organization.

REPORTS TO: Senior Director, Marketing and Communications

LOCATION: San Francisco (Hybrid)

SALARY: $90,000 – $110,000. Full-time. Exempt.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute a comprehensive social media strategy for Common Sense Media’s social media platforms, including but not limited to Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, LinkedIn, and X/Twitter, to reach families, advocates, and thought leaders.
  • Create engaging and relevant content for social media platforms, including text, images, videos, and interactive media, that aligns with each platform’s specific mission and target audience.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams—including Families, Education, Advocacy, Research, Business Development, and Development/Fundraising—on campaigns, product launches, and overall content development that aligns with program and organizational goals.
  • Partner with the Common Sense Education social media manager to align on opportunities for cross-promotion.
  • Monitor social media channels for trends, news, and conversations relevant to the brand, industry, and target audience, and capitalize on opportunities for engagement.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with influencers, brand advocates, and industry and community partners to amplify our social media reach and impact, in partnership with communications manager and outreach team.
  • Stay connected with social media trends, tools, and applications, and recommend innovative strategies to enhance our social media presence and effectiveness.
  • Monitor and manage platform communities by responding to comments, maintaining community guidelines, and raising issues and feedback from the community to the team.
  • Manage social media performance metrics to provide regular reports and insights to key stakeholders, identifying areas for improvement and optimization.

Position Requirements

  • 5 – 7 years of experience in digital marketing or social media management, with a track record of developing and executing successful social media strategies.
  • Deep understanding of social media platforms, algorithms, and best practices, with hands-on experience across a variety of channels.
  • Proficiency with social media management platforms like Sprout Social and design platforms like Canva and Adobe.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to craft compelling content and engage with diverse audiences.
  • Proficiency in social media analytics tools and platforms, with the ability to interpret data and extract actionable insights.
  • Experience with targeted and wide paid advertising on social media platforms is a plus.
  • Creative thinker with a passion for innovation and staying ahead of industry trends.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to thrive in a collaborative team environment and work effectively with cross-functional teams.
  • At least 1 year of experience supervising at least one person.
  • A passion for our mission and an entrepreneurial spirit.
  • Bilingual Spanish speakers preferred.
