The Social Media Specialist serves as the team expert for the development of social media resources, strategies, and solutions that create and build engagement, reach new people, and enhance public relations efforts for local United Methodist churches around the world.

This role provides coaching and training to church leaders on effective social media practices, evaluates, and provides support to enhance their church’s holistic social media marketing efforts, and works to grow followers and reach through the placement of social media ads on various platforms.

The Social Media Specialist follows the latest social marketing trends, stays up-to-date with changes on all social platforms, and makes recommendations for expanding a local church’s social media presence on new channels as appropriate.

Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree in public relations, marketing, or mass communications, or a related field; or equivalent experience.
• At least two years of professional social media marketing experience required.
• Excellent writing, interpersonal communication skills, and creativity.
• Understanding of the needs of the local church and the ability to build rapport with church leaders.
• Experience with image editing software such as Adobe Photoshop, Canva, or equivalent digital media editing programs, and the ability to coach church leaders to a basic understanding of the image editing process.
• Experience with Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, Snapchat, and TikTok preferred.
• Must be detail-oriented with good analytical and problem-solving skills, able to multi-task and stay organized in a fast-paced environment.
• Good judgment combined with a strong work ethic, professionalism, and integrity.
• Ability to prioritize and conduct numerous projects simultaneously.
• Knowledge of The United Methodist Church is needed.
