Social Media Consultant (Short-Term)

AFECE is seeking the services of a consultant with extensive experience and a proven track record in Web Design, Publishing, and Social Media.

The selected candidate will work under the supervision of the Program Manager of the Chief Economists of Government (CEoG) initiative to execute various tasks related to content design, online production, and web management. The primary objectives and activities of this role are outlined below.

Objectives & Activities:

  • Conceptualize, research, and produce content for the Think Africa Partnership program and the CEoG initiative, adhering to World Bank Group Digital Governance standards.
  • Create a variety of digital content, including infographics, interactive graphics, digital postcards, graphic banners, gifs, slide shows, short animations, and videos.
  • Regularly update key web pages on program websites.
  • Develop messaging materials with strong, appropriate narratives, including biweekly newsletters, articles, blogs, briefs, and other digital and social media content.
  • Prepare and contribute to the production of graphics, multimedia, and other visual elements for program websites.
  • Collaborate with multimedia professionals to create high-quality digital materials such as videos, podcasts, interviews, and infographics.
  • Assist in organizing virtual and physical economic policy events and drafting summary reports.

Selection Criteria:

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, marketing, international development, public affairs, political science, or a related field.
  • At least 2 years of relevant professional experience in economic policy, development, or public affairs, preferably in an African country.
  • Professional-level knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Portfolio of past website design work.
  • Proven track record in writing, editing, or curating impactful economic/development policy content and data visualizations.
  • Familiarity with statistical or graphics software (R, GIS, Python, Adobe Suite, Canva) is advantageous.
  • Familiarity with basic scripting (HTML, JavaScript, and CSS) is a plus.
  • Familiarity with publishing on Drupal.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills for maintaining relationships with website owners and the team.
  • French language skills would be an advantage.

Duration and Payment of the Consultancy:

  • Payment is commensurate with experience.
  • Beginning date: November 1, 2023
  • End date: June 30, 2024
