As a Social Media Specialist, you will play a pivotal role in managing the library’s day-to-day communications, brand identity, and community engagement through various social media platforms.

This position involves overseeing daily operations, creative content development, production, performance measurement, and optimization across all social media channels. The Social Media Specialist is a key member of the Communications & Marketing department and leads the library’s social media team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Creating Content: Develop consistent, creative, and compelling content for social media platforms. Review social media posts and customer interactions. Engage with social media followers and promptly respond to inquiries. Foster positive relationships with library staff, management, program teams, and social media collaborators.
  • Strategy and Planning: Formulate, maintain, and execute the library’s social media strategy. Create and manage an editorial calendar and posting schedule for social media engagement and marketing campaigns. Monitor external social media outlets to identify trends and topics relevant to library objectives.
  • Community Engagement: Stay informed about local, regional, and national events in Topeka and Shawnee County, Kansas, as well as major pop culture trends that can be connected to library resources and services.
  • Measurement and Analysis: Collect and analyze relevant social data, metrics, insights, and best practices. Generate regular reports and act on insights to enhance the effectiveness of social media campaigns. Collaborate with internal and contracted data teams. Ensure compliance with social media regulations and guidelines.
  • Attendance: Maintain punctuality and consistently meet scheduled hours efficiently and dependably.

Position Requirements/Preferences:

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, or a related field.
  • Two years of experience in social media marketing, advertising, communications, or broadcasting.
  • Two years of experience executing social media plans and using social analytics tools.

Preferred:

  • Multi-lingual fluency.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Proficient knowledge of social media platforms, online analytics tools, Adobe Creative Suite, MS Office, and video/audio editing software.
  • Excellent moderation and interview skills.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Understanding of social media management and strategy.
  • Strong multitasking abilities, prioritization skills, and the capacity to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Effective teamwork skills.
  • Proven project management capabilities.

Additional Information:

A pre and/or post-employment drug screen, criminal history record check, and physical capacity testing are required as conditions of employment.

SCHEDULE: This is an exempt (salaried) position, generally requiring 40 hours per week, with occasional evening and weekend work.

PAY & BENEFITS: The starting salary ranges from $46,633.60 to $58,281.60, depending on experience and qualifications.
