As a Social Media Strategist at Radford University, you will play a critical role in advancing the university’s strategic goals and priorities by developing and implementing a dynamic social media strategy.

Reporting to the Director of Digital Communication and Marketing, you will be responsible for creating engaging written and visual content for various social media platforms, including LinkedIn, Facebook, and Instagram. You will conduct research to inform your messaging and work with others throughout campus to collect and place user-generated content on social platforms.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop a comprehensive social media content calendar for the academic year.
  • Create written and visual content (videos and photos) for social media platforms.
  • Engage with followers and monitor and respond to conversations as needed.
  • Maintain the integrity of the Radford University brand.
  • Identify and track key performance indicators (KPIs) to monitor the efficiency of social media content.
  • Collaborate with members of the digital communication, media relations, and graphic design teams.
  • Maintain confidentiality with sensitive issues.
  • Provide consultation and guidance to social media users throughout campus.
  • Stay up-to-date with current and emerging trends, technologies, and platforms in social media.
  • Follow university brand guidelines in all written and visual social media content.
  • Contribute to crisis/issues communication efforts when necessary.

Required Qualifications:

  • A demonstrated experience developing written and visual content (video and photo) for social media or other digital platforms.
  • Experience creating content for platforms including LinkedIn, Facebook, and Instagram to reach and regularly engage with followers and constituents.
  • Experience with social media management tools like Hootsuite.
  • Familiarity with website content management systems.
  • Experience with social media monitoring, reporting, and analytics.
  • Must follow university brand guidelines in all written and visual social media content.
  • Knowledge of current and emerging trends, technologies, and platforms in social media as well as social media best practices.
  • Strong organizational, written, and verbal skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Portfolio showcasing examples of written and visual content used on social or other digital platforms.
  • Crisis/issues communication experience.
  • Prior experience in higher education social media management.
  • Knowledge of social media accessibility best practices.
  • Experience providing consultation and guidance to social media users throughout campus related to social media basic best practices and trends.
