The Division of University Brand Strategy and Communications (UBSC) plays a pivotal role in achieving these objectives by collaborating with internal and external partners.

Position Overview:

As a Content Writer and Social Media Manager at the University of North Texas, your role will be integral to the institution’s mission. You will be responsible for crafting and managing content for the university’s website and institutional social media platforms.

Your efforts will play a critical role in marketing UNT to key audiences, enhancing the institution’s image, and contributing to increased undergraduate and graduate enrollment and retention rates. In addition to content creation, you will be involved in developing, organizing, and maximizing social media content to expand UNT’s exposure.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a related field.
  • Three years of experience in writing and/or editing publications.
  • An equivalent combination of experience, education, and training may also be considered.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to conceptualize, write and edit strategic, accurate and concise content for university audiences.
  • Ability to work under pressure, meet deadlines, conduct multiple tasks and maintain effective working relationships
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
  • Ability to visually inspect print and online copy when self-editing or editing the copy of others
  • Works effectively within a team and effectively works closely with other staff, faculty, and students toward a common goal.
  • Extensive knowledge of spelling, grammar, punctuation and Associated Press and Chicago Manual styles.
  • Knowledge of writing styles and guidelines for various media formats and ability to create, coordinate and edit copy for each format (print, digital/social media, video, broadcast, etc.).
  • Understanding of institutional strategy (or ability to quickly assimilate) and ability to integrate the strategy into modes of communication.
  • Ability to supervise and coordinate the work of others.
  • Knowledge of and ability to research industry best practices to assist the division, college or unit in aligning strategies for UNT publications (print and digital) with University strategy and guidelines.

In addition to the minimum qualifications, the preferred candidate for the Content Writer and Social Media Manager position at the University of North Texas (UNT) should possess the following qualifications:

  • Three to Five Years of Experience: A minimum of three to five years of experience in coordinating and planning strategies and content specifically for branded social media channels. Personal social media account experience is not applicable.
  • Experience with Brand Social Media Sites: Proficiency in administering brand social media sites, including but not limited to Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. Experience with personal social accounts is not considered.
  • Campaign and Strategy Expertise: Ability to create and execute campaigns and strategies for social media, along with the capacity to plan, supervise, and coordinate content creation. Evaluation and review of created content are also essential skills.
  • Familiarity with Social Media Management and Reporting Tools: Knowledge of social media management sites and reporting platforms such as Hootsuite, Sprout Social, Radian 6, and Facebook Insights. Proficiency in using these tools to report social media metrics is required.
  • Sound Judgment in Community Engagement: Demonstrated ability to exercise sound judgment when engaging with and managing the social media community. This role will serve as the leader for social media within UBSC and UNT.
  • Flexibility in Work Hours: Availability for scheduled work that may include some nights and weekends.
